Couples San Souci Review

On my recent short trip to Jamaica I got the opportunity to check out Couples San Souci! It’s a lovely resort, but I can’t imagine to whom I would recommend it. It has a traditional Caribbean open-air feel, which is lovely, but the place is so hilly and tired-looking that I can’t imagine ever staying there myself. The entire resort is pretty much set up on a low cliff that you have tons of stairs to walk (not very much in the humid Jamaican weather) and is big enough to get lost. So if you’re hard of walking or in a wheelchair, you can pretty much rule this place out.

Besides the odd layout there are several alluring reasons to visit the resort. If you like a nude beach, Couples San Souci has a private one besides it regular beach. I didn’t bother checking it out, but it’s something I didn’t know about before. There are also plenty of romantic and private little nooks and crannies around the resort, like pergolas and massage huts. Also, many people like that it’s maintained that Caribbean feel as many resorts cover themselves in marble and concrete, taking away the charm.

So, basically if you don’t mind hilly climbs all day long and you want a quiet adult-only getaway, this might be the place for you. To be honest, I would look elsewhere first.

Main lobby – open air. I like my lobbies air conditioned though…

One of the many stony walking paths all over the resort.

Lovely little outdoor massage hut.

Beautiful views overlooking the cliff and the resort’s beach in the distance.

IMG_0068I love that they have a mineral pool on site – nice to get a break from chlorine for once.

Aw they used to have a big tortoise that lived on the grounds but it died 🙁

Head down here to stick your feet in an get a minnow pedicure!

A very private space for either a small wedding or a romantic dinner. This was my favorite spot on the resort.

The resort’s private beach – it was nice but small. Ocho Rios isn’t known for its beaches, though! Didn’t bother checking out the “natural” beach haha 🙂

Although I love the calm color scheme of cremes and blues, it doesn’t seem to match the vibe of the resort.
