This week we’re focusing on Jack and Jenn!
1. First of all, what are your website and social media links?
2. How did you come up with your website name?
We actually struggled so hard to find a name for this blog. Travel everything, wanderlust something, adventure people- all of it was taken! I was all for Jack and Jenn Travel Again but when its all smushed together it doesn’t look pretty. So we started reading quotes and we found one that says “Who needs maps when you can get wonderfully lost!” And it stuck; we really liked it. So Who Needs Maps was born!
3. What more can you tell us about your blog? What are your goals or intentions for it?
Jack and I are a long distance couple from Los Angeles and Australia, so we have to travel places to see each other. Every place we go is something new for the both of us and since we haven’t seen each other for x amount of time, it makes our time there extra special. Who Needs Maps for us is like our little “pet” together. We both do different things for the blog to make it what it is and it really requires a lot of teamwork since we aren’t ever in the same room! Jack is the back end, and I am the writer- so together we have to collaborate on what I should write, what are the key words, what he needs to do in terms of SEO- so in a way, apart from sharing our travels, it really helps us learn how to work with each other and communicate! We just hope people like our blog and take something away from it
4. Can you provide us with a Throw Back Thursday picture?
Jack and I went to the Wipeout Course in Koh Phangan, Thailand, you know, the water course that you have to try to beat? There were these three large balls that you had to try to jump over and we both tried several times and failed miserably. It was just so funny and we had so much fun doing it. We filmed ourselves too and looking back, there’s no chance we’ll even make it through the auditions to be on the show! Y
5. Which are your favorite and least favorite cities you’ve traveled to? Why?
We have a few favorites. We loved Melbourne, Jack is from there but it is such an amazing city to live in and the culture is just so fresh! We loved Hanoi, it was a beautiful city filled with unlimited things to do and see and the coffee was unreal! Least favorite? Um, Pakse in Laos? I don’t know we only spent about 6 hours there and had no idea what to do. But saying that, we hear its really beautiful to ride your bike around. It was just a bit quiet for us.
6. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten? Where?
The strangest thing I have eaten is cricket in Cambodia or Scorpion in China, but Jack trumps me by far. It’s more like what hasn’t he eaten! I think the strangest is this rice wine mouse fetus shot in Hong Kong. Grosses me out just thinking of it!
7. Who are your travel idols?
We really admire Agness from eTrammping. We love to follow her blog for all the amazing places you can do for under $25 a day but on top of that, she is a really sweet person! I’ve emailed her a few times and you know she loves what she does and she is truly passionate about where she travels. Great blog, great person!
8. What’s your best travel tip?
Take every experience as its own and don’t compare your trip to others. If it rains, make the best of it. If you get scratched, get up. If you missed your bus, you have an extra day to explore. Learn to love your experience for the way it came to you!
9. Which is your favorite post you’ve written?
Traveling with your Partner, I love it because it is pretty much a fun way of showing off the relationship of Jack and Jenn abroad! http://www.whoneedsmaps.com/traveling-partner/
10. What advice would you give to someone new to travel blogging?
Just be you, as cheesy as that sounds. No one wants to read something like they’re buyers. You want to talk to them about your experiences, about cultures, things that you encountered. People like to read about genuine experiences.
