Jewel Dunn’s River and Jewel Runaway Bay Resorts

While in Jamaica recently, enjoying a stay at the Secrets St James, I visited a few other resorts including the Jewel Dunn’s River and Jewel Runaway Bay. I was so impressed with both! Jewel Dunn’s is an adult only resort (with its own private and separate nude beach, if you’re into that) and Jewel Runaway is a fabulous family property.

Because I prefer adult only properties (sorry, I don’t like kids splashing water at the pool bar or crying in the restaurants), I would only stay at Jewel Dunn’s. Unlike maybe properties, Jewel Dunn’s, which was originally a Sandals, actually feels Caribbean. What that means is that it isn’t covered with white marble everywhere like Moon Palace Jamaica Grande, but rather it still has that charming Caribbean feel. They kept the dark mahogany beds from Sandals and it isn’t so overwhelmingly huge that you lose your breath walking around the resort. It’s all open air and gives you a warm welcome feeling when you arrive.

Lovely spot to get married overlooking the ocean!

I visited Jewel Runaway Bay after Jewel Dunn’s, and would highly recommend it if you have younger children. I’d say it’s perfect for any family with kids between the ages of 3-15. The resort has an included waterpark, which is every kid’s dream, a lovely beach, and great kids’ and teens’ club. Honestly, it was like one big fun party for young families!

So basically, if you want a charming and romantic Jamaican getaway, you can find a great option at Jewel Dunn’s Resort. If you’re looking for a family vacation, Jewel Runaway Bay is a great choice. Either way, make sure to explore downtown Ocho Rios. Often times visitors to Jamaica tend to stay away from the towns but I saw plenty of tourists in Ocho Rios exploring its shops and restaurants. It’s worth a trip!
