On my recent trip to Puerto Vallarta we toured several resorts and stayed at the Riu Jalisco. I wish I could say how wonderful the Riu Jalisco was, but after seeing all the other amazing resorts in the area, it wasn’t very fun returning to the Riu Jalisco in the evenings. The beds were hard and crunchy from the mattress protectors, the food was meh at best, the pools were loud and crowded (not their fault), and the rooms were so musty that my clothes were damp all the time and my swim suit never even dried! Not my idea of fun. Maybe I’m spoiled as a travel agent, but Riu did itself a disservice by placing us in that resort. Sorry not sorry! The pictures might look nice but as a guest there none of us agents were impressed by almost any part of the resort.
The Riu next door, the Riu Vallarta, seemed to be a step up. I can’t speak for the food or the rooms as I took a quick 10 minute walk around the property, but the pools seemed to be less crazy and the restaurants were more inviting. So if you’re planning on visiting this and want to stay at a budget all-inclusive, just spend a few extra dollars at the Riu Vallarta as you’ll probably be disappointed in the Riu Jalisco. You do have access to both as a guest of one.
