Recently I had the chance the stay at the wonderful Secrets St. James for a few nights! I’ve seen quite a few all-inclusive resorts and this was definitely one of the nicer ones, especially being adult only (sorry but I just don’t like kids around when I’m on vacation or splashing water in my drinks at the pool bar)!
We had a Jr Suite Oceanview Preferred Club room. The Preferred Club, costing extra of course, has added amenities like private check in, priority in restaurants, and a little lounge with snacks/dessert bites all day. To be honest I thought it was a waste – while nice, none of it made a difference with me and we were actually further away from the restaurants since it’s considered a quieter section.
We had a small one person jacuzzi on our balcony (disappointing) and I didn’t like that there wasn’t a full door/wall between the bedroom and bathroom. Couples still need some individual privacy sometimes!
The resorts, really just two in one (which I can’t understand why as it’s all really one resort), are about a twenty minute drive from the airport depending on traffic, so you might still want to book yourself a private transfer.
The food was very good for the most part – we had beef satay at the Seaside Grill for lunch and also dined at Portofino (Italian) and Bordeaux (French). At Portofino we had lasagna and seafood linguine. At Bordeaux we had snails in puff pastry, bouillabase, and one of every dessert 🙂 I have to admit the house red, a cabernet, was NOT good. I couldn’t get through more than two sips and didn’t feel like buying a bottle.
The breakfast buffet at World Cafe was my favorite meal; I’m a big breakfast fan and they had pretty much everything I could ever even think to eat for breakfast and more, and all of it was wonderful!

Overall the Secrets St James/Wild Orchid is a fantastic resort. If you have to pay a lot extra, I don’t think it’s worth it. The resort doesn’t utilize wrist bands, so there’s nothing from stopping people using the preferred pools, but they can’t get in to the lounge without a preferred card. It’s a quieter section if that matters, though. I would stay in the Wild Orchid preferred section as the views of the bay were lovely from there.
If you like good food and great service and don’t mind the price, this is the place for you! Also, no kids!!! Sorry (not sorry)!
IDK what it is but I drank it all!
