Hey all! Today I’ve got the lovely Kelly Ella on here – check out her interview!
1. First of all, what are your website and social media links?
Twitter – https://twitter.com/
2. How did you come up with your website name?
It’s not very original, it’s just my name! But, I decided to go with my name so that the success that came with my travel blog would be directly linked to me. This has really paid off as I’ve now started a second business and my blog success and magazine features have “followed” me.
3. What more can you tell us about your blog? What are your goals or intentions for it?
My blog is directed towards luxury millennial travellers. Young travellers who have a bit of money and aren’t interested in backpacking or hostels. I focus on hotel reviews and destination guides for every city I visit.
4. Can you provide us with a Throw Back Thursday picture of one of your favorite travel memories with an explanation?
One of my favourite travel memories was staying in a private villa at a luxury hotel in Bali that I was working with. Our villa had it’s own pool overlooking the ocean, and my breakfast was served to me on a floating tray in the pool! It was so much fun, and also very rewarding. It was a bit of a milestone to work with a hotel of this price point, it marked my success as a blogger!
5. Which are your favorite and least favorite cities you’ve traveled to? Why?
My current favourite city is Bangkok. I love the energy! It’s such a fun city and I never run out of new things to see or do here. My least favourite city is Kuala Lumpur. I just didn’t enjoy this city, mostly because I didn’t feel very welcomed by the locals and I felt very much like an outsider. It wasn’t a nice feeling and I guess it stuck with me.
6. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I’ve been travelling through Southeast Asia long enough that I can probably assume I’ve eaten dog at some point. That makes me sick just thinking about it, but it’s normal for them to eat dog in Laos and some area of Thailand… and I do eat at a lot of local street markets.
7. Who are your travel idols?
Fashion blogger Tuula Vintage! She travels just as much as I do, yet she somehow looks absolutely flawless doing it. I need to learn a few things from her…
8. What’s your best travel tip?
My best packing tip is to take the time to plan! Planning out my trips allows me to save so much money because I know ahead of time what transportation methods are best (ex: train or taxi from the airport?). This also means that I never ever waste money at shitty restaurants while travelling, because I’ve done my research and I pick out the perfect places ahead of time. This really helps with my budget and allows me to travel more.
9. Which is your favorite post you’ve written?
“How to Look Hot in Your Passport Picture” is still my favourite piece I’ve ever written. It also happens to be my most popular post, so I guess travellers like it too! http://kellyellamaz.com/
10. What advice would you give to someone new to travel blogging?
Reach out to other travel bloggers to network and ask for advice! I’m always happy to help new bloggers figure out the ways to success.
