This week we’re speaking with Laura Studen from Girl x Departure!
1. First of all, what are your website and social media links?
Girl x Departure (www.girlxdeparture.com) is my special place, where I blog about my adventures abroad, share my favorite spots in my hometown Berlin and give travel tips. If you want to be up-to-date with my travels or connect with me directly, you can follow me on Twitter (https://twitter.com/girlxdeparture), Instagram (http://instagram.com/girlxdeparture), Bloglovin’ (http://www.bloglovin.com/girlxdeparture) and Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/girlxdeparture/).
2. How did you come up with your website name?
I think my blog name shows clearly what my blog is about: the “girl” indicates that it is rather a personal blog and the “departure” presents the travel-related aspects of it. It was important for me that my readers would know immediately what they can expect.
3. What more can you tell us about your blog? What are your goals or intentions for it?
I created Girl x Departure in August 2014 to have a place, where I can share my travel experiences and connect with similar minded people from all around the world. I hope that I can inspire my readers to travel and to enjoy life to the fullest!
4. Can you provide us with a Throw Back Thursday picture of one of your favorite travel memories?
One of my favorite and very special travel memories was celebrating New Years Eve in London. It was such a great night and so magical to see the fire works with thousands of other people. I can really recommend celebrating a new year in another country.
5. Which are your favorite and least favorite cities you’ve traveled to? Why?
That is a hard one! I probably would say that Istanbul is one of my favorite cities, because it has so much to offer and to discover. It is a fascinating city that combines traditional and modern facets and I can’t wait to be back! A city that I didn’t like that much compared to others would be Munich. There is no doubt that Munich has beautiful places, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much.
6. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten? Where?
I think something strange (but also super yummy) that I’ve eaten were fried snickers, fried oreos and fried pickles during my year abroad in the South of the US. It is true that the Southern states of the US love to fry food. I was mostly surprised of the fried pickles, because they turned out to be really good. If you ever have the chance, try them!
7. Who are your travel idols?
I am really amazed by my friend Brooke form www.worldofwanderlust.com, who travels the world on her own. I also feel inspired by the amazing pictures of tuulavintage.com. When I see her pictures, I immediately want to book my next flight.
8. What’s your best travel tip?
Try as many new things as possible! You travel because you want to discover something new and unknown. Try new foods, experience another culture, meet new people and do as much as possible. Cherish these moments and make the most of them!
9. Which is your favorite post you’ve written?
One of my favorite posts that I’ve written is called “10 Reasons to Study Abroad”. After I studied myself abroad for a year in the United States, I really want to show other students that it is great opportunity to learn more about another country, their culture and a new language of course. However, you also grow as a person.
10. What advice would you give to someone new to travel blogging?
Write only about topics that are of your own interest. Readers will enjoy those articles much more, because they feel that you’re passionate about it. In addition to that try to keep it interesting, blog regularly and have fun blogging, because that’s what it’s all about!
