Today I’ve got a great guest post from Riya, an inspired writer now based in Thailand. Riya loves cooking, crafting and yes! sipping a good coffee. Thanks to Riya for sharing with us. Check out her twitter, @sanderriya.

Cruising down the road in search of fun and adventure with your best friends may be a part of your upcoming plans, and you may want to know how to have the best road trip ever. Going on a road trip can be the best experience or the worst one, depending on how much effort you put into planning it. Any time you get on the road for an adventure, you may face obstacles and challenges. However, when you understand what things to plan for a road trip and properly prepare for the experience, you may set yourself up for an amazing experience.

Insurance for the Unexpected

Even before the rubber meets the road, it is always wise to plan for the unexpected by purchasing roadside service insurance. Finding yourself stranded on the side of a road out in the middle of nowhere can ruin your trip. Therefore, make sure that you purchase roadside insurance if you do not already have a plan for this type of coverage. Doing so will save you both time and a possible headache in the future.

Tune Up Your Vehicle

Taking your vehicle into an auto shop for a tune-up is a must before putting a few thousand miles on it. The last thing you want is for your car to break down on the side of the road. If you want to avoid this possibility, have the vehicle checked out by your mechanic before leaving. This is a simple step that may make a huge difference in how enjoyable your road trip with friends is.

Maps Are A Good Thing

What did we do before the invention of maps? We probably went in a lot of circles before arriving at destinations. It is very important to get a map before your trip, and this means getting an actual map. In the digital age, you may be inclined to use the mapping features on your smartphone. However, what if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere without an Internet connection? Having a hard copy of a map would be a lifesaver in this type of situation.

Plan Ahead for Music

Every road trip needs a soundtrack, and making your own playlist is a great idea. Before leaving on your journey, get a playlist together on your electronic device that features tunes everyone will love. Ideally, it will consist of twelve to fifteen songs that you can listen to repeatedly. You can burn your songs onto a CD, or you can use MP3 files to make a digital playlist. Regardless of your preference, remember that nothing beats a sing-a-long while cruising down the road with friends.

Make A Plan

Before you set out on your road trip, it is smart to plot out which cities you will sleep in along the way. Doing so will allow you to maximize each day that you are out on the road. Also, plan an itinerary so that you never drive more than eight hours a day for safety reasons. Driving more than the recommended eight hours could result in accidents related to fatigue, and spending so many long hours on the road at a time can be a drag. If you are traveling with friends, it is wise to drive in shifts. After all, no one likes to be behind the wheel the entire trip.

The Needed Essentials

Be sure to pack enough clothing for the duration of the trip, and consider all weather conditions and activities that you have planned when packing you bag. Before you just pack your bags and go, remember that it is helpful to have a few extra pairs of underwear. Also, when planning for the best road trip items, if possible, prepare a cooler big enough to stock with cold drinks and snacks that you will need. There may be times when you might travel for many long miles on the road before coming to a place to get food. Be sure to include a first aid kit as well. Bring a flashlight, some extra batteries and a list of important phone numbers to reach out to in case of an emergency arises.

Extra Time for Fun

While it is always good to stick to a schedule, sometimes it is good to have some extra time. Road trips are meant to be fun, so leave plenty of free time in your plans each day to explore side attractions or to otherwise thoroughly enjoy just hanging out in new and exciting places with your friends. Remember that the unplanned events of a road trip may be the most memorable and enjoyable, and they could be a prime reason to plan a fun road trip with your best friends.
